Description

Original Watercolour by Martin Romanovsky: Assertive Red Kite 490mm x 375mm on 140lb/300gms Bockingford watercolour paper.  Following a trip to Rutland Water during which I saw several of these magnificent birds, I decided I wanted to develop one of the photographs I took into a watercolour study of one particular Red Kite that had real attitude.  It was feeding down on the ground in a field next to the lane I was driving down to get from one part of Rutland Water to another.  I spotted him at distance in the field high on the brow of the hill so I grabbed my camera and managed to get a few shots before he was startled by something and consequently flew off.  The weather was superb that day and the memory of seeing that bird in the bright winter sunshine lingers on.  A moment to treasure and hopefully I have captured some of the mood of that bird in this painting.
