About Me

Martin Romanovsky (BSc, PGCE, MSc, NPQH):   My passion for painting and drawing and all things related to art goes back a long way, back to primary school even.  I can remember very clearly buying a book on reptiles from the school book club and was fascinated by the line drawings of snakes lizards.  It wasn't long before I was trying out those skills for myself and producing some good attempts, especially for a nine year old.  Art was one of my strongest subjects at secondary school and there I had the most wonderful Art teacher to encourage me and to show me how to hone my already budding aptitude for painting and drawing.  Her name was Mrs Archer and I couldn't have wished for a better teacher and guide.  Hence I did very well in my O Level and A Level Art courses thanks to her superb teaching.  Following A Levels, I successfully completed a one year Art & Design Foundation Course in a local college thus preparing me for an Art degree course (or that's what I thought at the time!) and then a successful career in the world of graphics.

But sadly this was not to be.  The competition was too fierce or perhaps I didn't fight hard enough for a place and the only course I was subsequently offered a place on did not attract the essential maintenance grant.  I thus wandered into 10 years of retail management then went to university to complete my degree and teaching certificate.  This was followed by 20 years of teaching Science and Maths and experience of school leadership . During that time my passion for art never dwindled and I have always taken time to practice my art skills, explore new media and tackle new subjects.

Sometimes in life we get a second chance to grab hold of something that slipped through our fingers the first time it came around. And in 2016 I got my second chance to explore a new career in art and design and I've grabbed it with both hands.  As you take time to browse through my website,  just reflect on the fact that the seed which started my journey began with a book on reptiles when I was just a nipper in primary school and a dream about  becoming an artist one day.

It is difficult to follow your dreams. It's a tragedy not to!!!
