Fifty Shades of Grey & Green (607mm x 748mm): Acrylic Painting on stretched canvas, 2017.
I watched this Grey Heron from the Steetley hide overlooking West Marsh Pool at Brandon Marsh nature reserve in June 2017. It was carefully stalking it’s prey through the lush green reedbed. I used my Canon SX500IS camera to get a series of photographs from which I was able to compose and paint this artwork in Acrylic using Winsor & Newton pigments. The original piece and limited edition prints are available to buy as well as Fine Art greetings cards in the same design.

Assertive Red Kite (490mm x 375mm) in Watercolour, 2017: I was moved to complete this painting of a Red Kite following a day trip to Rutland Water with a friend back in January 2017. This Red Kite was feeding in the middle of a field whilst basking in the full winter sun. It had real attitude and was actively defending its meal. I managed to get a few photos from long range and with additional research, produced this final composition.
Greater Spotted Woodpecker: Inspired as a boy by the bird artist Basil Ede, I wanted to capture some or the techniques he uses to reproduce my own painting thus tribute to his work. Basil Ede predominantly works in Gouache but here I attempt a similar subject in watercolor and pen and ink. Both the original watercolour and a series of limited edition prints personally signed by me the artist is available through the online shop on this website.
Reed Bunting: This original watercolour was based on a photograph that I took of a cheeky little bird at Sense Valley Forest Park in 2016. It measures approximately 290mm x 210mm and is painted on 300gsm watercolour paper. The original painting is for sale and limited edition prints from an exclusive series of 50 are also available in the online shop.
Blue Parrot (Hyacinth Macaw): Original watercolour measuring approximately 300mm x 400mm. Hyacinth Macaw are native to Eastern and Central South America hance this study is taken from a photograph. I was inspired to paint this bird becasue of the deep rich blues and and purple hues in their magnificent plumage. The original watercolour is still for sale and there is a number of limited edition prints available through my online shop.
Waxwing: This is such an iconic bird that is a winter visitor to the UK. In Winter 2016 and Spring 2017 there were larger than normal flocks of Waxwings and I was lucky enough to have some very close encounters with them acting as the perfect inspiration for a watercolour painting. This measures approximately 300mm x 400mmand is painted on Bockingford 140lb watercolour paper. The original painting and limited edition prints are available from my online shop.
Barn Owl in an Oak Tree (circa 1981): This one is with kind permission of its owner, namely my sister Karen who commissioned this piece way back. I haven’t seen it for a long time and it was a joy to be able to take an older piece and use technology to digitise and publish it.
Wrens in the Bracken (circa 1981): Another commissioned piece from over 35 years ago.
